Hanuman Jayanti
🗓️ Chaitra Purnima (Mar–Apr)
The story behind Hanuman Jayanti
Hanuman Jayanti is kept on Chaitra Purnima as the appearance day of Bhagwan Hanuman, son of Anjana and Vayu, and the foremost of Bhagwan Rama's devotees. Tradition counts him among the chiranjivi, the deathless, present wherever the Ramayana is recited. Some regions in the south and west observe his jayanti on other tithis — Margashirsha Amavasya in Tamil Nadu, Vaishakh Krishna Dashami in parts of Karnataka and Andhra — so the Chaitra Purnima date is the northern and pan-Indian reckoning rather than the only one.
