Hariyali Teej
🗓️ Shravana Shukla Tritiya (Jul–Aug)
The story behind Hariyali Teej
Hariyali Teej falls on Shravana Shukla Tritiya, when the monsoon has turned the land green — hariyali — and commemorates Maa Parvati's reunion with Bhagwan Shiva after her long tapasya, which tradition counts as the fruit of a hundred and eight births of devotion. Married women observe a fast for the wellbeing of their husbands, and unmarried women for a virtuous match. It is kept with particular vigour in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, where women wear green, adorn their hands with mehndi, and gather to sing on swings hung from trees.
